Vignette.....

This tutorial will guide you through the making of a simple vignette to enhance your photographs in Adobe Photoshop CS... This should work in other versions but I don't have these to check them on... The first thing to do is open your image in Adobe Photoshop...

  1. Use the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M) to draw the outline of the vignette...
  2. Click on Select... Select Feather... Type in the amount of feathering you want...
  3. Click on Select... Click on Inverse...
  4. Make sure your background colour is white and press the Delete key...
  5. Hold down the Ctrl key and press the D key to remove the marching ants...
  6. (optional) Select Black as your background colour and Click on Image... Click on Canvas Size... and set the width and height in pixels to 2... Click OK... (This would add a little black border to define the edge of the image to separate it from the background...)
  • If you wish the image to blend in seamlessly with a web page background of a single colour choose that colour instead of white in step 4 and miss out step 6...
  • If you wish the vignette to go to black, in step 4 make sure the background colour is black...
Feather amount 5
Feather amount 10
Feather amount 20

Note...
For a more natural looking vignette, in step one use the losso tool to draw the outline for the vignette...
