Creating a Translucent Watermark…
When your image is ready for the web, and you feel you would like to place a watermark on it for protection without it being obtrusive, this is one way of doing it…

The watermark is just under the red arrow…

1... Select the Text tool from your tools palette, and type whatever you want as your watermark on the image…

2... The text size and font can be selected from your menu bar... The maximum default font size is 72 pt, but you can type in a larger number. I chose 172 pt for the copyright symbol for this tutorial. This © is created by holding down the Ctrl key and typing 0169 on the numeric key pad. This will automatically create a new text layer.

3... I then double clicked on the text layer to bring up the layer style window. From this window I chose the Drop Shadow option and kept the default settings and clicked on OK.

fill-opacity4... I then changed the fill and the opacity of the text layer as shown on the left.

The fill (black arrow) must be set to 0% to make it translucent.

The opacity (red arrow) however can be adjusted so that it is just visible on the image without being obtrusive.

For the position I placed it in the original image I chose 15%, but if I had placed it on a lighter part of the image it might have gone down to about 5% or lower, or a darker part might have needed 25% or more.

You then save it to the web in your usual way... Anyone printing it out will also print the copyright symol as well... This should also stop photo labs from printing the image...
