Lighting... Rembrandt lighting is achieved by combining the principals of short lighting and butterfly lighting... The main light is positioned high as in butterfly lighting but to the side of face that is away from the camera as in short lighting. This technique produces a trianglular shadow under the eye and nose on the side of the face closest to the camera... Again with this technique you can use a reflector or fill in light at head height to reduce the effect of these shadows if you so wish... The thought of shadows under the nose and eye may at first seem off putting but if they are controlled they give an image a sense of depth... |
